Where Ruidoso History Meets Legendary Flavor
The Texas Club began not as a restaurant, but as a private residence built in the 1960s. In the early 1970s, it was transformed by legendary Western actor Dale Robertson into a private clubhouse for his Texas friends visiting Ruidoso Downs. He called it “The Texas Club,” charging a dollar for membership — a small price for the unforgettable memories that would unfold inside.
From Private Club to Ruidoso's Steakhouse of Choice
In 1974, local carpenter and Oklahoma native Wayne Wood purchased The Club and officially turned it into a public steakhouse. Tales of high-stakes poker games and colorful characters filled the walls — including one infamous 36-hour game where a woman reportedly brought more than just her chips to the table. The Texas Club was fast becoming a local landmark, known for its unbeatable steaks and frontier spirit.
A Legacy Passed Down, A Tradition Preserved
Through the decades, The Texas Club changed hands — always with a deep respect for its roots. Owners came and went, but the commitment to quality remained. When chef Linda Kelso took the reins in the mid-90s, she helped define the signature menu and warm hospitality that locals and visitors still enjoy today. In 2005, new ownership brought fresh energy while preserving the steakhouse’s timeless character.
